Their first album to be certified platinum in the US was Kelplunk but Breakthrough performance was given by the Dookie album which was certified Diamond(10X Platinum) in the US and Canada, 3X in the UK, 4x in the Australia. The main singles of the album were Longview, Basket Case and When I come around. The later album Insomniac was very much successful and was able to 2 million copies in the United States. Later albums Nimrod, Warning were able to get little bit commericial success but it American Idiot released in 2004 which sold around 6 million copies in US and several million in other countries and brought band back to top in critical and commercial fame. Single like Boulevard of Broken Dreams won Grammy award and was considered the best rock song of the year. Other well-recognized singles were Wake me up when September ends, American Idiot. American Idiot proved to be one of the best albums of the band. After a big break they released their 8th studio album In the May, 2009 entitled 21st century Breakdown which was a success but can’t maintain the level of success which band got with American Idiot. But it was able to give Green Day best chart position to this date as album topped 14 different countries charts  with certified Gold or Platinum.

Outdriven guitar, fast, manic drums, and relatively high-treble bass in majority of their songs compares them with wave punk bands like Sex Pistols, Ramons, etc.
